About Offworld:
Offworld Industries Ltd. (Offworld) is the independent studio behind the successful military first-person shooter game, “Squad”. Offworld was formed in 2014 by more than 15 developers who had worked together on the well-known Project Reality mod for Battlefield 2. The founding purpose of the team was to bring a standalone successor of this acclaimed mod to market and build a game development studio and a livelihood from that foundation.
Fast forward to 2026, Offworld has over 150 employees and is rapidly growing. We have been expanding the studio into serving as a publisher supporting mods and have released our newest title, "Starship Troopers: Extermination", a 16-player PvE first-person shooter based on the 1997 cult-classic film.
We are built on passion, unified spirit and continuing efforts to break the mold. We strive to become a leader in creating large-scale multiplayer games as well as supplying others with the ability to do the same.
We are looking for a talented UI/UX Designer for our current and upcoming Unreal Engine based multiplayer games. If you are passionate about making great games and a team player, we are looking for you!
Job Duties:
- Design and implement UI directly in Unreal Engine, (using UMG and blueprints) taking layouts from concept through to a working, performant in-engine result.
- Design wireframes, user flows, and high-quality UI layouts for PC and console games.
- Own the handoff from design to engine, translating Figma/Adobe mockups into UMG widget hierarchies, setting up widget blueprints, animations, and data bindings, and iterating directly in the editor.
- Build and maintain reusable UMG widget libraries, styles, and templates to keep implementation consistent and scalable across the project.
- Refine and optimize existing UI elements in Unreal Engine to improve usability, visual consistency, and runtime performance.
- Use tools such as Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, and Miro, to create and communicate designs to other teams (engineering, production, art, game design, QA).
- Collaborate closely with artists, engineers, and game designers to iterate on designs and incorporate feedback effectively.
- Create UI art assets and motion design elements, and implement them as animated UMG widgets (widget animations, material-based effects, sequencer-driven transitions).
- Deliver high-quality work within tight deadlines and production constraints.
- Advocate for the player experience, ensuring designs and their in-engine implementation align with gameplay goals and enhance overall engagement.
- Debug and troubleshoot UI issues directly within Unreal Engine (Blueprint logic, widget performance, platform-specific input/resolution issues).
Requirements:
- Hands-on experience implementing UI in Unreal Engine, including strong working knowledge of UMG and Blueprint scripting for UI logic and navigation.
- Strong understanding of layout principles, usability, and interface design best practices.
- Minimum of 2 years of professional experience as a UI Designer/Implementer in PC or console game development, with direct Unreal Engine implementation experience.
- Proficiency with Figma and Adobe Creative Suite.
- Comfortable working across the full pipeline: from wireframe/mockup through to a shippable, implemented UMG widget in Unreal Engine.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present and explain design and implementation decisions to diverse stakeholders.
- Strong time management skills and ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work with and adapt existing art assets into polished, production-ready UI elements within Unreal Engine.
Desirable traits:
- Experience with Common UI plugin or custom UMG extensions.
- Familiarity with Unreal Engine performance considerations for UI is a strong plus.
- Self-motivated and proactive, with a focus on removing blockers and driving solutions.
- Alignment with studio values and ability to contribute positively to team culture.
- Comfortable working in a dynamic, collaborative team setting.
- Interested in first person shooters and/or have worked on an FPS game, ideally one built in Unreal Engine.
This is a 12-month fixed-term position, with the requirement to work from our office three days per week. There is the possibility of an extension or transition to a permanent role based on the needs of the business.
The typical salary range for this position is $75,000 - $90,000 CAD per year and is subject to change. The final agreed upon salary is based on work location and may vary depending on factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
This role offers:
- Extended health and dental benefits
- 2 weeks of paid vacation
- Wonderful colleagues!
