Full job details
Magic Media is a pioneering media, entertainment, and tech group powered by creativity and innovation. We have a physical presence in 14 countries and expertise in the areas of art, animation, cybersecurity, game development, software development, VFX, and video production amongst others. We work with leading developers and publishers within the games and tech industry, providing support and solutions designed around individual needs and carried out by global experts.
The ideal candidate will have extensive full-time Unity programming experience in games. As a senior Unity developer, you will own the client-side delivery of features for a cloud-streamed party game played on a TV, with phones acting as controllers. This includes design, development, coding, testing, and debugging. You will also estimate task completion, write technical design documents, and work closely with the lead developer and the client's studio in Helsinki.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
- Build and integrate client features for a cloud-streamed party game in Unity 6.3 (C#, URP, FMOD), working inside an existing codebase and the client's SDKs.
- Own social and multiplayer features end to end, such as friends, invites, asynchronous play and session sync, together with the backend and controller teams.
- Keep the TV display and the phone controllers in sync, including reconnects, late or dropped input and degraded networks.
- Work with the platform owner's tech team to unblock SDK and platform dependencies, and raise risks early.
- Take part in regular playtests, local and remote, and turn the feedback into planned work.
- Fix bugs, write technical documentation, and support client QA through alpha, regression and release.
- Mentor mid-level developers and review their code.
- 5+ years of experience as a Unity game developer.
- Shipped at least one multiplayer, party, casual or two-screen game. Live-ops experience is a plus.
- Availability for daily working-hours overlap with Helsinki (EET/EEST).
- A passion for video games.
- Very strong skills in Unity and C#, ideally Unity 6 with URP.
- Experience integrating third-party SDKs and platform features (social, cloud, multiplayer) within platform restrictions.
- Experience with multiplayer systems and keeping state consistent across clients, including under degraded network conditions.
- Capable of driving a feature by yourself, talking to everyone that's needed to get the job done, and seeking out missing information proactively.
- Familiar with performance bottlenecks and ways to resolve them, including multi-threading and optimization.
- Very strong debugging skills.
- Experience with FMOD integration (banks, events, mixing) for audio supplied by an audio team.
- Experience building tools and telemetry (authoring tools, analytics events, debug menus).
- Excellent communication skills in English, and strong reporting and documentation skills.
- Flexibility and ability to adapt to feedback and changing priorities in a live game.
DESIRABLE PLUSES:
- Experience with React, TypeScript or React Three Fiber on the controller side.
- Experience on cloud-streamed or TV-based game platforms.
- Experience with word, puzzle, party or board games.
- Involved in the development of at least one large game title from A-Z.
- Solid technical foundation (e.g. Computer Science / Maths Degree or equivalent).
- Permanently remote position.
- An opportunity to hone and improve your skills by applying them to a diverse variety of engaging projects.
- Be part of an international group with offices worldwide.
- Career growth and development.
- Working closely with a team of like-minded people in a fast-paced, multicultural environment.
- Ongoing training and professional self-improvement opportunities.
- Flexible working hours.
- An inclusive culture and open communication.
