Senior UI Programmer

Description

As a Senior UI Programmer at Certain Affinity, you will build the interface that connects players to the game. You’ll collaborate closely with UI/UX designers and artists to implement intuitive and responsive HUDs, menus, and interactive systems. We are looking for someone who doesn’t just place widgets on a screen, but someone who builds clean, reusable UI frameworks that perform across multiple platforms and elevate the player experience.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and maintain responsive UI systems, ensuring smooth interaction and visual fidelity between the player and the game
  • Partner with UI/UX designers and artists to translate wireframes and visual concepts into functional, high-performance in-game interfaces
  • Develop and optimize reusable UI components and systems to streamline workflows
  • Diagnose and resolve UI-related bugs, performance bottlenecks, and input-handling issues across the game layout
  • Participate in code reviews and maintain clean technical documentation to support a collaborative engineering environment

Technical Requirements

  • 3+ years of professional game development experience, with a dedicated focus on UI
  • Solid experience developing user interfaces within Unreal Engine, specifically using UMG and Blueprints
  • Proficiency in C++ and a solid understanding of object-oriented programming principles
  • Experience managing complex UI states, input handling (gamepad, keyboard, mouse), and localized text systems
  • Familiarity with profiling tools to identify and fix UI-driven memory and performance issues

Non-Technical Requirements

  • Ability to collaborate across disciplines, taking creative concepts and breaking them down into clear technical tasks
  • A proactive problem-solver who takes ownership of assigned features and drives them to completion
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to discuss technical constraints and design trade-offs openly with non-technical peers
  • A detail-oriented eye for animation timing, layout precision, and overall user experience polish

Extra Credit

  • Experience shipping a multi-platform AAA title (Console and PC)
  • Familiarity with motion design, materials, or shaders inside Unreal Engine
  • A passion for UI/UX design trends and accessibility standards in gaming
Salary Range: 100K-130K CAD
