About Prism Studio
Prism Studio is a Malta-based game development studio making bold, player-first games. We're a small, cross-disciplinary team working remotely across Europe, with a culture built on ownership, trust and self-management. Our first title, Heptic Arena, is a third-person PvPvE arena shooter set in an intergalactic game show. We're now building it with our community through closed playtests on the road to Early Access.
About the Role
We're looking for a Lead UX/UI Designer to own the user interface and player experience of Heptic Arena across PC and console. You'll report to the Creative Director and set the UI vision, standards and direction for the game. You'll also stay hands-on: designing screens, building assets and working in engine day to day.
This is a player/coach role. There's no line management, but you'll mentor junior designers and freelancers, review their work and raise the quality bar across the team. You'll be the go-to person for UI and UX decisions, working closely with art, design, engineering and production.
Key Responsibilities
Lead, Manage, Define and maintain Heptic Arena's Players UX,UI visual language and design system (components, typography, iconography, colour, motion,accessibility guidelines.
Lead UI/UX across the full player journey: front end, HUD, menus, progression, store, social features and onboarding.
Propose, Concept, Design, prototype and deliver: wireframes, user flows, screen maps, mockups and final UI assets, from early concept through to polish.
Work closely with Game Design and Engineering on implementation in Unreal Engine, and resolve UX trade-offs and technical constraints early.
Use playtest feedback, analytics and A/B testing to find UX problems and iterate on solutions.
Mentor junior designers and freelancers through design reviews, feedback and clear briefs.
Estimate, plan and prioritise UX/UI work with Production, Execute and control development, create and distribute UX/UI tasks in Jira.
Own UX/UI documentation in Confluence and keep it the single source of truth for the team.
Set up review and QA processes so that the implemented UI meets our quality, consistency and accessibility standards.
Represent UI/UX in leadership and cross-discipline discussions, and advocate for the player's experience.
About You
- 5+ years of experience in game UI/UX design, including at least one shipped PC or console title.
- A strong portfolio of PC/console game UI work (not mobile), showing both systems-level thinking and polished visual execution.
- Deep knowledge of UI design principles, information hierarchy and usability, especially for real-time, action-heavy games.
- Hands-on experience implementing UI in Unreal Engine (UMG/Common UI preferred)
- Expert use of design and prototyping tools such as Figma, Miro, Axure, Adobe XD or similar.
- Experience building and maintaining a UI design system or style guide.
- Proven ability to guide and mentor other designers and give clear, constructive feedback.
- Strong communication and documentation skills, and confidence presenting and defending design decisions to stakeholders.
- Comfortable with Jira,, Confluence and Google Workspace
- Self-driven and organized, able to thrive in a remote, self-managing team.
- Based in or near the Central European time zone (CET ± 2 hours).
Nice to have
- Experience with UI animation and motion design, such as After Effects, Rive or in-engine animation.
- Experience with multiplayer, live-service or competitive shooter UI, including HUDs, scoreboards, matchmaking, stores and battle passes.
- Knowledge of console platform UI guidelines.
- Familiarity with accessibility standards for games.
- Experience running or analysing usability tests.
