Job Description:

Candy Crush Soda Saga is one of King’s biggest mobile games, enjoyed by millions of players around the world. We’re looking for a Game Designer to help shape engaging player experiences within Soda’s Team Infinity, helping create engaging features and LiveOps experiences that deliver the right content to the right players at the right time , working closely with your Creative Lead. This is a great opportunity for a designer who cares deeply about game design, enjoys hands-on creation and iteration, and wants to make a meaningful impact on a live game played at global scale.

Candy Crush Soda Saga is King’s second largest game, enjoyed by millions of players around the globe. Since 2014, players have crushed delicious candies, befriended Swedish fish, rescued gummy bears and collected soda bottles to flood the board with fizzy soda across more than 19,000 levels.  Candy Crush Soda Saga is available to download for free on major platforms including the Apple App Store, Google Play, Amazon App Store, Windows App Store and Facebook.

Your Role Within the Kingdom

As a Game Designer on Soda, you'll take ownership of game design challenges from concept to implementation, working with a high degree of autonomy as part of a cross-functional team.

You'll partner closely with product, engineering, UX, art, and other design crafts to create high-quality features that are intuitive, engaging and rewarding for players. You'll explore ideas hands-on, prototype and iterate on different solutions, creating clear design documentation that communicates the intended player experience, design rationale and implementation requirements.

You will:

  • Design and own features from concept through implementation, balancing player needs, product goals and development constraints.

  • Create engaging gameplay systems and mechanics that strengthen the overall player experience.

  • Prototype, test, iterate, and refine design solutions until they are intuitive, engaging, and most importantly… fun!

  • Use player insight, research, product understanding and data to inform design decisions and improve outcomes.

  • Own moderately complex design problems, making informed decisions while proactively seeking feedback and leveraging the expertise of the wider design team.

  • Communicate design rationale clearly, share regular progress updates, and contribute constructively to design discussions.

  • Collaborate across disciplines and contribute to a collaborative design culture by sharing ideas, giving thoughtful feedback, and learning from others.

  • Support implementation by producing clear specs, flows, tuning direction and other practical design artifacts.

  • Contribute across adjacent areas when helpful, with curiosity for disciplines such as UX, systems, economy, narrative or level design.

Skills to Create Thrills

Experience

  • Experience designing gameplay features, systems, or mechanics for games. We welcome designers from a range of backgrounds; experience in mobile, casual, or free-to-play is an advantage.

  • Proven ability to take ownership of design work, solve a wide range of design problems creatively, and deliver high-quality, implementation-ready outcomes.

  • Experience working in cross-functional teams and contributing through iteration, feedback and live product development.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong grounding in game design fundamentals, including mechanics, systems, player behavior, balancing and pacing.

  • Ability to use player insight, testing and data to evaluate designs, improve quality and respond to changing product needs.

  • Clear communication skills, with the ability to document designs, explain decisions and collaborate effectively with designers, developers, artists, UX and product partners.

Key Attributes

  • Passion for game design, with curiosity, learning agility and strong motivation to create great games.

  • Focus on player needs, designing with empathy and advocating for clear, meaningful and enjoyable experiences.

  • Collaborative approach, openness to feedback and willingness to take initiative as priorities or insights evolve.
