Technical Artist, Rigging

Sony Bend Studio, renowned creator of Days Gone, Uncharted: Golden Abyss, and Syphon Filter, is seeking outstanding talent to join our passionate and creative family in crafting our next high-profile AAA console title.

We are seeking a Technical Artist who will contribute to the artistic vision and development of a AAA product with a specialized focus on creating organic and hard-surface articulated assets, art tools, techniques, and processes for game development.

Responsibilities:

  • Create high quality character, weapon, vehicle, and prop rigs.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of character, prop, and animation tools.
  • Develop rigs and skeletons that meet the technical limitations of game engines while ensuring the animation looks as realistic as possible within those limitations.
  • Develop and implement skinning methods to achieve realistic articulation and deformation of hard-surface and organic assets, including the creation of processes to assist in completing these tasks quickly and efficiently during production.

Requirements/Education:

  • Basic understanding of Python and other scripting methods.
  • Solid understanding of Maya and other 3D tools.  
  • Strong portfolio with examples of current, hands-on work, including hard-surface and organic rigs. 
  • Some previous or next-gen video game platform experience is desirable using proprietary engines, unreal, or unity.

Bonus Qualifications:

  • Examples of tools and scripts to assist in the creation of rigging assets.
  • Knowledge of Maya API.
  • Understanding of C++.
