Sound Designer

The status quo is not good enough for our dedicated worldwide community of players, which is why we question the de facto industry conventions and demand more from ourselves as developers. 

The ArenaNet audio department is looking for a Sound Designer to join our team! We are strong believers in expressing creativity in every aspect of game audio; from field and Foley recording, to editing and design, to implementation and testing. In this role you will be responsible for designing original sound and implementing audio for innovative gaming experiences and collaborating with many different teams and individual contributors both in and outside of the audio department. 


  • Work with cross divisional teams to gather information needed to create the appropriate sounds for the game
  • Design sounds and implement audio for innovative gaming experiences
  • Collaborate as a creative partner with game development teams
  • Work directly with, and as a day-to-day part of, game development teams in a co-development environment
  • Collaborate with sound leadership and other sound designers to create living soundscapes for games and interactive media
  • Work with audio programmers and upstream designers to develop best practices and optimized workflows.
  • Design sounds that assist in the story telling, narrative, and game designs
  • Implement audio assets into game audio systems using proprietary game audio engine.. 


  • Strong knowledge of audio tools and audio production techniques
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Mid-level of experience in game development or equivalent production.
  • Experience implementing audio assets into a game via commercial or proprietary game engine editor.
  • Self-motivated/self-directed in the day-to-day autonomy paired with collaborative instincts
  • Solid understanding of the game development process across disciplines
  • Cross-discipline collaborative experience, both creative and technical
  • Solid creative design skills
  • Sound design proficiency across several areas - including character movement, creatures, weapons, magic, ambiences
  • Experience implementing audio assets into a game via commercial or proprietary game engine editor.
  • Working experience with a DAW, two-track editor, and batch processing for the creation and processing of assets for use in-game.


  • Programming or scripting experience.
  • Demo reel or audio portfolio including representative examples of sound design and implementation experiences. 

We are open to remote work in AZ, CA, CO, FL, GA, ID, IL, MA, MD, NC, NV, NY, OR, TX, UT and WA or onsite/hybrid/flex at our office in Bellevue, WA.

The salary range for this position is $60,000 - $100,000 per year, plus annual bonus potential. Please note that the salary shown is a general guideline only. We take into consideration the geography in which you live and your experience and qualifications when determining final salary. This role is also eligible for medical, dental, vision and life insurance, short and long term disability, 401(k), flexible and dependent care spending accounts, PTO, paid holidays and parental leave.
