The opportunity

As part of the Unity Labs research group, CloudLab is a new team building a platform that will power next-generation, Cloud-enabled content authoring tools of all sorts. The technology will enable creators to access novel tools via WebGL / WebGPU apps and collaborate in real-time bringing artists, programmers and creators together to collaboratively build worlds, animations, materials and music to be used in Unity projects.

We are looking for a talented lead engineer to join our new team in Montreal or Vancouver. You will take on the lead technical role for the entire platform. You will work closely with research teams and product managers and help bring their products onto the CloudLab platform. You will also mentor and help manage the career development of a number of employees, and help us reinforce the Unity culture. We are looking for someone that has a proven track record building scalable products using Unity.

What you’ll be doing

  • Collaborate with researchers, product managers and designers to develop and deploy high-quality cloud-based web applications using Unity's WebGL player
  • Participate in the continued development of our WebGL and future WebGPU players and interface significantly with clients, project managers and business development on technical requirements, solutions, scope and budget
  • Work closely with other developers, designers, artists, producers, program managers and QA to understand features and develop strong, scalable toolset for deploying apps to the cloud
  • Design robust, testable architectures that scale well and in addition to estimate tasks and run time effectively
  • Ensure the team adheres to and offers improvements to project standards and guidelines to enable better software development

What we’re looking for

  • Ability to manage people in a diverse and inclusive environment
  • Ability to lead teams in order to design, develop and deploy high-quality applications built with Unity
  • Ability to develop scalable solutions with the prospects of large data sets in a multi-user environment.
  • Experience building commercial software using the Unity Editor

You might also have

  • Experience with a variety of Web and Cloud technologies such as Firebase, React, Redis, etc.
  • Experience with modern JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5 and CSS
  • Experience with Machine Learning
