Timbre Games, a new studio in Vancouver, Canada, is seeking a Lead Software Engineer - Unreal Tools to join their team. The engineer will be responsible for developing and implementing efficient Unreal Engine tools, scripts, and plugins to improve workflow and productivity. They will collaborate with the development team, artists, and designers to create and deploy tools, automate tasks, and optimize workflows. The engineer will also play a key role in building and growing the engineering team, providing mentorship and leadership. The ideal candidate will have experience developing tools in Unreal Engine using C++, Python, Blueprints, Editor Utility Widgets, or Slate. They should have a track record of building and deploying reusable tools across multiple projects. Previous experience in a leadership or mentorship role is highly desirable. The candidate should possess strong problem-solving skills and a deep understanding of Unreal Engine's scripting and customization capabilities. They should be forward-thinking and have a passion for pushing the boundaries of what's possible in the gaming industry. We are Timbre Games (part of the Sumo Digital Group), a new studio in Vancouver, Canada focused on making exciting, innovative game experiences. Timbre’s vision is to change the games industry through the original games we make, as well as how we make them. Our engineering team is fully integrated with all areas of game development and collaborates both technically and creatively. Our studio focuses on Unreal Engine 5, pushing everything we do towards technical excellence. We have a keen eye for best practices and elegant code, and ensure knowledge sharing, and mentoring are a priority.

As the Lead Software Engineer - Unreal Tools, your technical expertise in designing and implementing efficient Unreal tooling will be crucial in streamlining our workflow and accelerating game development. You will work closely with engineering, animation, art, and design to create tools that automate workflows that improve and optimize our work.

You will also play a key role in building and growing our engineering team. Your mentorship and collaborative leadership style will create an environment where talent can flourish, innovation can thrive, and the team can collectively achieve our goals. As a Lead Software Engineer  Unreal Tools at Timbre, you will:

    • Lead the development and implementation of efficient Unreal Engine tools, scripts, and plugins to improve workflow and productivity
    • Architect and maintain robust systems that enable seamless integration of tools into our game development process
    • Collaborate closely with the development team, artists, and designers to create and deploy tools, automate repetitive tasks, and optimize workflows that elevate the working lives of our team
    • Ensure pipeline automation and optimization
    • Collaborate with team members of various disciplines to review proposed features and develop those features from prototyping to production
    • Write beautiful C++ code that is clean, clear, performant and aligns to coding best practices
    • Mentor and inspire other engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth within the engineering team.

What You Bring:

    • Demonstrable experience developing tools in Unreal Engine using C++, Python, Blueprints, Editor Utility Widgets, or Slate ,with a track record building and deploying reusable tools across multiple projects.
    • Previous experience in a leadership or mentorship role is highly desirable. Your proven leadership capabilities and ability to mentor others will be instrumental in cultivating a positive and empowering work environment.
