Frontier, an independent developer and publisher of video games for PC and consoles, is seeking a DevOps engineer to design, build, manage, and optimize distributed systems for their online services team. The role involves working with technical leads and project stakeholders to achieve high levels of systems availability and reliability for Frontier's players. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and improving the automation of server infrastructure on Amazon Web Services, patching, testing, and security updates of web servers and code, web server configuration, and monitoring and reporting of web services. The ideal candidate should have a degree in a relevant discipline, experience of working with servers, and experience programming in a dynamically typed script-based language. The role:

Frontier's Online Services team are responsible for developing, hosting & operating an increasing number of websites & game services, including high performance databases & APIs.

We are looking for a DevOps engineer who can take the initiative with our infrastructure projects to achieve high levels of systems availability and reliability for Frontier's players.

Working with technical leads and project stakeholders within the Frontier you will take responsibility for designing, building, managing and optimising distributed systems and contributing to raising our quality bar for information security & assurance. 

What does the role involve?

In the role of DevOps engineer you will take the initiative with new server infrastructure projects hosted on AWS and on-premise, implementing best practice to build secure, reliable and high performance systems. 

As well as designing and building new systems you will be managing two infrastructure engineers to monitor, maintain and update our existing service infrastructures.

This is a varied role which will require collaborating with Online developers and other teams in Frontier to assist with code deployments, pipelines, testing, backups and reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

    • Maintaining and improving the automation of server infrastructure on Amazon Web Services
    • Patching, testing and security updates of web servers and code
    • Web server configuration
    • Monitoring and reporting of web services

About you:

    • Communicate effectively with team members and work collaboratively on supporting our web services
    • Aware of working with servers and it would be nice to have worked with Linux before
    • Curious, have a good aptitude for learning and enjoy variety, with opportunities to work with a variety of technologies and systems

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

    • Essential
    • Degree qualified in a relevant discipline e.g. Computer Science, Maths or Engineering.
    • Experience of working with servers
    • Experience programming in a dynamically typed script-based language, such as Python, PHP, Javascript or Ruby

    • Desirable
    • A-Level or higher Math's
    • An understanding of public cloud systems such as Amazon Web Services.
    • Configuring open source server applications, such as Docker, Apache, Nginx, MySQL 
    • Working with SQL databases such as MySQL or SQL Server.
    • Working with NoSQL databases such as DynamoDB, Redis or MongoDB
