Our 3 development teams are each creating an original game:

  • Firewalk™ is working on a new multiplayer IP to be exclusively published by PlayStation
  • Cauldron™ is developing an adventure game
  • Battle Barge™ is creating a co-op RPG

THE ROLE:

We are seeking a Developer Services Director who is experienced in running the technical teams that are needed to support game development studios. Being able to envision and build a shared technology platform that will enable game teams to build games very effectively.

The role for Developer Services Director is responsible for the technical direction, technical roadmap and management of our software development groups while overseeing the development of services, tools and systems for games under development. This includes managing, senior engineers and other managers while partnering closely with the rest of the core leadership team to iterate towards a technical vision in the areas of Engines, tools, build systems, data, consoles. This role directs and ensures collaboration with other departments such as design, art, IT, and production to ensure that studios can deliver games on time, minimize budget and to the highest quality standards. The Director of Engineering will be responsible for the technical strategy, hiring and allocating software engineers, supporting individuals' craft growth, and maintaining a healthy team environment for teams of software engineers.

The salary range for this position is $230,000 - $356,400. This range represents the salary for the position commensurate with experience, knowledge, and demonstrated success in the field.  

WHO YOU ARE:
  • Worked in all technical areas of game development and have a deep understanding of the whole system.
  • Very detailed orientated and not afraid to make decisions once all the information is understood.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
  • Directs and manages a software engineering organization that are responsible for the design, development, testing, and maintenance of complex services, tools and systems under development.
  • Responsible for the technical direction, technical roadmap and decisions within Development Services.
  • Anticipates problem areas and develops preventative solutions for highly complex software engineering challenges.
  • Collaborate with other departments to develop game software that meets the game studios needs.
  • Manage and mentor a group of software engineers, including performance management and career development.
  • Provide daily feedback to direct reports and senior management to ensure team is growing in a positive direction.
  • Develop and implement software engineer best practices and processes to ensure consistent, high-quality delivery of services, tools and systems.
  • Manage technical risks and communicate issues to senior leadership and managers.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key technology partners, and keep up-to-date with the latest industry trends and emerging technologies.
  • Effectively cascades functional strategy and contributes to development of organizational policies.
  • Directs and develops methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for projects, programs, and people.
  • Ensure that there is an effective software engineering organization in place before teams move to production stage.
  • Oversee the hiring and allocation of software developers for multiple projects, supporting individuals' craft growth, and maintaining a healthy team environment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Able to direct day-to-day projects and end-to-end assignments to broader group utilizing software engineering best practices, independent judgement, skills, and previous experience to effectively formulate a technical vision.
  • Ability to drive innovation and technical excellence in software engineering organizations.
  • Ability to formulate, articulate, and manage a compelling technical vision while rallying a team of cross-discipline software engineers.
  • Strong ability to enhance internal/external working relationships and work cross functionally with other teams in the capacity of a software engineering director.
  • Able to manage and lead discussions around technical limitations, scope, and scheduling.
  • Strong ability to communicate your ideas and expand on other’s ideas.
  • Able to Direct engineers at multiple skill levels and backgrounds while growing their talent.
  • Fluent understanding of modern software workflows including blueprint & scripting languages, or any other toolset related to the given discipline of game development.
  • Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Experience managing and directing cross-discipline teams within Software Development.
  • Requires proficiency in at least one or more programming languages: Preferably C/C++ or equivalent.
  • Experienced with budgeting, workbooks, documentation, staffing plans & estimations.
  • Familiarity working in a fast moving environment.
PREFERRED SKILLS:
  • 15 or more years of related or equivalent experience.
  • Has shipped games on unreal engine and consoles.
  • Has built technology systems from scratch vs just maintained a bunch that were already in place.
